| When thin is not beautiful
Madrid, Feb 07: A top Spanish fashion show, the Pasarela Cibeles, has rejected five models from its team of 69 for being too thin. Some of the girls were rejected due to a very low body mass index of 16 - the equivalent of being 1.80 meters and weighing less than 50 kg, Susana Monereo, who sets the standards for the show with two other doctors, said. Although some models reach the body mass index and are considered healthy, they look too thin, she said. If the Cibeles organisation allows the show, it could exert negative influences on the population in general and cause problems related to anorexia, she went on to say. The Madrid show was the first in the world to exclude extremely thin models in a bid to reduce slimming disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.
Low-Carber Quietly Living A Healthy Life
Lost in the debate over the veracity of the low-carb lifestyle following the crash of the "low-carb craze" is the fact that millions of low-carbers just keep on plugging along quietly living their healthy lifestyle without any fanfare or desire for recognition. They are the real low-carb warriors because they are living the truth each and every day. As a salute to all of you who make livin' la vida low-carb your preferred lifestyle choice for weight and health control, I'd like to share with you this remarkable e-mail I received from a woman who vastly improved her health after starting on the low-carb lifestyle in earnest a couple of years ago. She's not there yet with her weight, but you'll never believe how she changed her health and her new doctor's mind about this way of eating. Here's her story:Jimmy,I've been reading on your blog and everywhere else about low-carbing, health and cholesterol and want to give you an update on what's been happening with me.
Low-Carb Blogging Purposefully Personal To Encourage Others
I am both criticized and praised for the way I write my columns. You see, I'm not content with simply regurgitating health and weight loss information in a very dry, impersonal manner that does not give people any practical context for using it in their own lives. Instead, I make every effort to share from my own experiences to help others who may be going through similar circumstances. Some say they don't care what some former fat guy has to say about diet and nutrition because all he is basing his comments on is what he has gone through and not basing his writings on any professional medical opinion. That's true and I've never claimed otherwise. Plus, I make that point abundantly clear every single time I write a new column. If you don't like what I write about, then nobody is forcing you to read it.
Study: Pork Perfect Power Food For Your Diet
It seems like we are seeing lots of research coming out all the time regarding the health and weight benefits of eating meat because of the healthy levels of protein it provides (some examples of these studies can be found here, here, and here). These exciting new scientific foundations for protein consumption are revealing what many of us who are livin' la vida low-carb have already discovered--protein and fat in animal-based foods are playing a major role in keeping hunger satisfied while aiding in permanent weight loss. It's about time, right? This new study on protein published in this week's issue of the scientific journal Obesity focuses specifically on pork meat. Lead researcher Dr. Wayne W. Campbell, associate professor of Foods And Nutrition in Purdue University's Laboratory for Integrative Research in Nutrition, Fitness and Aging, and his fellow researchers observed 46 overweight and obese women between the ages of 28 to 80 with a BMI of 26-37 over a period of 12 weeks.
